Dreamweaver provides graphical interfaces for creating and editing HTML files. However, sometimes you may need to have direct access to the underlying HTML code. Dreamweaver provides such access in the form of the HTML Source inspector (see HTML Source inspector) and the Quick Tag Editor (see Editing an HTML tag in the Document window).
Dreamweaver also provides useful ways of handling HTML files that were created outside of Dreamweaver. With Roundtrip HTML (see About Roundtrip HTML), you can be sure that Dreamweaver won't change your handcrafted HTML code unless you want it to; you can set a variety of options for what Dreamweaver rewrites and what it doesn't. (See Setting HTML Format Preferences.) Conversely, Dreamweaver can clean up cluttered and unnecessary HTML at your preference, using the Clean Up HTML and Clean Up Word HTML features—see Cleaning Up HTML and Cleaning up Microsoft Word HTML.
